Women In Harmony

Women in Harmony is a video documentary which offers a glimpse into the lives of three women living in Melbourne’s Western suburbs; Nan Myat Kyaw, Teresa Kau and Mary Weaven.

The video highlights the courage and strength of these women. It also gives an insight into the Karen and Sudanese communities, with footage of a Sudanese wedding and a Karen wrist tying ceremony.

The video was made with funding from the Victorian Multicultural Commission’s Women Creating Harmony grant, and auspiced by Yarraville Community Centre. It was launched by the Hon. Joan Kirner, who had this to say “ The film was simply stunning – both moving and challenging! It displays evocatively  three dominant themes: the loss of family, culture, identity, fear, desperation and deep sadness as well as the determination to survive.....Their stories are told in words, tears, smiles and stories built on the strengths of Nan, Teresa and Mary. These experiences are told in a mixture of stories, music, photos of old and new.”
